“I come from a family of immigrants, born in Romania, moved to Italy when I was young. At the age of 33 years old I've decided to go back to education and to pursue a career in science so I've moved by myself in the UK leaving my family and friends behind.
During my undergraduate degree, I was juggling two or sometimes three part-time jobs to pay my bills, which took a toll on my mental health. It was extremely hard to keep up with everything but I graduated with a 2:1+ and the satisfaction was enormous.
In the last year of my undergraduate degree, I was diagnosed with ADHD but this didn't stop me from going further in education and apply for a Master's degree in neuroscience. The diagnosis was just another challenge on my path that I have successfully overcome.
During my Master's degree I have landed my first job in science as a laboratory analyst in a microbiology lab. After graduating from my master's I am planning to apply for a PhD in neurobiology and to continue my career as a researcher in neurodegenerative diseases.
Despite all the odds against me, I'm the living proof that a mature introvert student who goes back to education after a 15 year gap from the studies moving to a foreign country, having 2-3 jobs in the meantime, all by herself, can succeed. “
