“Hi, I’m Eilidh. I live in Scotland and I’m an MSc student studying Ecology and Conservation. I absolutely love all things conservation, ecological and environmental and I have a passion for the outdoors and saving wildlife and nature so that future humans can enjoy it to!
I have Dyslexia and Dysgraphia. Many people don’t actually know what dysgraphia is so in case you don’t it’s a condition which affects writing abilities and often affects the ability to write things down on paper. It basically means my handwriting sucks and I can’t always write what I want to. It’s often a co-morbid with dyslexia but also autism and ADHD as well. Anyway I digress, I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia when I was in secondary school. I was initially being assessed for Dyslexia but the Education Psychologist took one look at how I was writing and holding my pencil and diagnosed me with Dysgraphia as well. So I got a double diagnosis from my assessment. Honestly school was rough and I felt like I was terrible at everything. Although I really found my passion for the outdoors and conservation through studying biology at school. Now fast forward 5 years I now have a undergraduate degree in Countryside Management. I completed a dissertation looking into Horse Grazing and the Impacts on Bumblebee and Butterflies populations. I have gained lots of experience various for conservation organisations such as Scottish Natural Heritage, RSPB and Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels. I was even lucky enough to secure full time work with last summer for three months working as a Survey Assistant. I’m now pursuing an MSc.
I can’t say my Dyslexia and Dysgraphia hold me back but they have definitely shaped me as a person and I’d like to hope that they make me a better scientist.“
