This is me! Pat! I don't often take photos of myself. I'm usually too in-the-moment to actually remember to take photos.

Another experiment I got to recreate and play with. I got to play with a Michelson interferometer. I discovered that interferometry requires the kind of patience I may not possess. A fun experience nonetheless.

The astronomy and astrophysics department at UofT. I spent a lot of time here meeting with my research supervisor. My research pertained to variable stars, specifically Mira variables.

The modern version of the Millikan Oil Drop experiment. I love being able to recreate historically significant experiments. I find that doing this strengthens my appreciation for the field of physics, and introduces a healthy dose of curiosity in my life.

“Greetings and salutations! My name is Pat and I’m nearing the start of my fourth year of my undergraduate degree. I am pursuing a specialist degree in physics and astrophysics! This can be a daunting task for anyone to undertake, but it’s especially difficult when you’re autistic. My autism can definitely be an asset for me, and I like to consider it marketable neurodiversity. There is a very warped perception of autism in media, and negative stereotypes arise from these misconceptions. But there is a wide variety of skills that I possess thanks to my autism that make me a diligent student, a compassionate friend, and a desirable employee. It’s true that I may face more hurdles comparatively, but in the end, I wouldn’t change who I am. When I’m not studying, I’m usually working. I spend a portion of my week working as a high school math and physics tutor. I love my job, and it gives me the opportunity to inspire and be a role model. I am profoundly in love with the subjects I teach, and I like to spread that sentiment to whoever will listen.”
