“Hey Guys! I am Terryl Bandy and I am a Neurodivergent scientist! I was recently diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety disorder, and I have recently learned from doing a lot of my own personal research that I am Dyslexic as well. Along with being Neurodivergent I am a trained Geochemist who has found herself in an Academic Lab being the main ICP-MS magician and Lab technician. Though I will admit I do not want to stay in this lab forever. I one day want to finish my education and get my PhD in GeoChemistry studying Paleo-oceanography and Paleo-Climates though having Dyslexia and Anxiety won’t make it easy I want to be a professor who can help teach the next generation of academics that it is ok to have different learning techniques than their peers. For me reading and writing have always been the hardest things to focus on due to my dyslexia. Which makes getting through a scientific article a struggle and makes writing a thesis and/or dissertation a major struggle. Though these are issues I dealt with I was lucky enough to find a Professor and Life Mentor who not only excepted me but saw the great potential in me and helped me learn new and better management mechanisms to get me my degrees so far! So my dream is to work on NASA grants, and help teach and bring up the next generation of Neurodivergent academics and researchers!“
